October is Mental Health Month

Every October, communities across Australia come together to recognise Mental Health Month. It’s a time to reflect on how mental wellbeing shapes our lives and how we can all play a role in supporting each other.

This year’s South Australian theme is “Connecting When It Counts.”

Too often, conversations about mental health only happen during the tough times. But mental health isn’t just about challenges, it’s about building meaningful connections throughout life’s pivotal moments.

At Access 2 Place, we know that connection is at the heart of wellbeing. Just as safe and secure housing provides a foundation for independence and stability, relationships and open conversations give us the support we need to thrive.

This October also marks one year since Access 2 Place officially took over the management of 31 homes from the SA Housing Trust’s Mental Health Housing Program. Spread across South Australia, these homes provide safe, affordable, and supportive living environments for individuals living with complex mental health needs.

This Mental Health Month, let’s commit to connecting when it counts. A simple chat might feel small, but it can have a lasting impact on someone’s journey.
